Whilst Curbs tentatively tipped his toe into unknown waters with the acquisition of a Moroccan, a Uruguayan and an irratic Italian, new kid-on-the-block Monica seems determined to sail further out into the world and trawl the dark depths of foreign waters to snare previously unheard-of gems.
And while adventures into Costa Rica waters have sadly been thwarted, another journey this time into the uncharted depths of Eastern France, where for some reason several African players are currently playing, Monica has toyed with and finally landed another unheard-of jewel.
Our latest signing is the wonderfully named Souleymane Diawara, purchased yesterday for £3.712 from the team currently lying sixth in the French league, Sochaux. He was born in far-off Gabou in Africa and is a companion of our recent signing Amady Faye in the Senegal national team.
Although boatloads of illegal immigrants land in Spain every day from Senegal having paid a small fortune to the African Mafia to get them there before being sent straight back by the Spanish government, it's somewhat heartening to see that its none other than our very own Monica who is providing two Senegalese with steady work down at the Valley.
So, our new boy is 27 years old and is a right-sided central defender and although born in Senegal has dual French Nationality so therefore doesn't need any of those nasty Work Permits things. He took part in the 2006 African Cup of Nations where Senegal finished in fourth place. This season he's played in three out of the 4 games that Sochaux have played without tasting defeat and we can only hope that he brings similar good fortune to his new team.
