Busy until the very last, Monica has completed ( I assume) his rebuilding with the season long loan of Omar Pouso from Penarol of Uruguay. The deal will cost £337K with an option to buy after one year.
The boy is 27 and is mostly famous for the goal he scored against England in March. A strong midfielder with a distinct hard-man appearance who was Penarol's captain, his arrival doesn't bode well for the fortunes of midfield duo Holland and Hughes.
Pouso is our second Uruguayan and will give his fellow country-man Sorondo someone to chat to as he hobbles around the training ground. Judging from his mugshot on cafc he looks like someone that will get stuck in and stir things up a bit and even Monica says he is "very, very combative", and I can already hear the cries of "Omar, Omar" ringing in my ears. In fact he does seem like an ideal replacement for Hughes, really.
He becomes Monica's 9th signing during the summer marketplace and reflects Monica's desire to completely revamp Charlton into a team of his own and Monica's already got back his money by persuading Middlesbro to cough up £300K for Jason Euell.
